Southern Arizona offers a landscape of astonishing diversity and extraordinary history. The journey begins at the Mission of San Xavier del Bac — the 'White Dove of the Desert' — one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in North America, still an active parish serving the Tohono O'odham Nation after more than two centuries.
From San Xavier, the travelogue continues south to Tumacacori National Historical Park, through the remote Organ Pipe National Monument with its extraordinary cactus forests, and to the sacred peak of Baboquivari — the spiritual center of the Tohono O'odham world. The full splendor of the Sonoran Desert, with its towering saguaros and astonishing biodiversity, frames the entire journey.
The journey concludes in Sedona, where the red rock formations create one of the most visually stunning landscapes in North America. This is Arizona beyond the postcards — a region of deep human history, ecological wonder, and landscapes that have to be seen to be believed.
